BURTON - Business is blowing up at The Moonwalk Man, a new party rental store at Courtland Center mall.
That's only natural for a company specializing in inflatable bounce houses, a popular rental item for children's parties. But it also is a sign that the 6-year-old business is growing and spreading its wings.
Owned by brothers Shawn Willey of Flushing and Scott Willey of Otisville, the business had been home-based until now.
Moonwalks are inflated playhouses shaped into themes, including castles, a gladiator arena, Noah's Ark, basketball courts with hoops, a circus tent, superheroes den and more. The Moonwalk Man offers 27 different inflatables, including 22 moonwalks, Shawn Willey said.
Depending on size, moonwalks rent from about $175 for four hours to $300 for a full day, including free delivery and set-up within 30 miles of Flint.
Other inflatables include dunk tanks, oversized jousting sticks used to bat around an opponent and sumo wrestler fat suits for bouncing off each other. The store also rents motorized toilet racers.
Earlier this year, the Willeys expanded the business to include tents, tables, chairs and accessories suitable for weddings, family reunions, company picnics, church events and other occasions.
Like a one-stop-festival-shop, The Moonwalk Man not only handles furnishings and decorations but also can help with refreshments. Rentals of concession equipment includes Sno Kone, cotton candy and popcorn machines.
The colorful 2,000-square-foot store, which opened Saturday at the west end of the Burton mall, is decorated with thousands of balloons the store also sells.
Shawn Willey and his wife, Charita, are professionally trained balloon-twisting artists who can coil and tie balloons into elaborate creations ranging from table centerpieces to cartoon characters. There's a monkey in a palm tree holding a banana, a motorcycle and one shaped like a baby's bottle...
